American Hospital
History:
American Hospital is one of Turkey’s oldest and most established hospitals, founded in 1920 under the leadership of Admiral Mark Bristol. The purpose of the hospital’s foundation was to provide healthcare services on equal terms to all races, religions, and nationalities, to establish a nursing school that would address Turkey’s urgent needs and train nurses, and to provide healthcare services to all people according to American standards.
In 1995, it became part of the Vehbi Koç Foundation. Until then, the hospital had been managed and supported by the New York-based, non-profit American Hospital company. Since 1995, the Vehbi Koç Foundation, with contributions exceeding 200 million USD, has led extensive renovations and the construction of new modern buildings. In 2007, it was transformed into a modern healthcare facility with 60,500 square meters.
The hospital, which was founded in 1920 with 45 beds and 3 operating rooms, has now become a leading and trusted healthcare institution, treating around 120,000 outpatient and over 20,000 inpatient patients annually, with 230 patient rooms, 62 intensive care beds, and 12 operating rooms, and performing more than 10,000 surgeries.
